Because when one of your party is being attacked by a giant spider, the best thing to do is stand there and explain why it can’t be happening.

He seems to be handling the situation just fine by himself…no need to cramp his style. Yet. 😉
So was the last giant spider a cave spider as well?

^Australian Huntsman – Delena cancerides
Nifty. I must admit that I did not know about the Huntsman spider. But yes, it is the same species as the one Joel and the foxes encountered earlier in the forest.
Wikipedia also tells me that is also the spider that was used in the original Spider-Man movie.
*also*
Highly unusual among spiders, the flat huntsman spider is a social species, even sharing prey. They are often found under loose bark (their flat shape is an adaption for this) in colonies up to 300, but they are highly aggressive and commonly cannibalistic toward members from other colonies. They hunt their food rather than spin webs for it.
The more you know!

With the way they’re eyes are drawn, Joel and the miner in the last panel look a little… stoned.
Yeah, I’m still working on that. Originally I had him looking down and to the right at Bruce on the ground (and out of the panel), but it looked more he was looking at Howard’s groin, so I switched it last minute.
