Look way up

My first experiment with SAI paint. This is so much easier to use for creating comics than Photoshop. Wish I had tried it long ago.

SAI Paint? Looks good! I’ll have to look it up…
“But”?? 🙂 So Bartholomew has a least some consideration for Joel’s feelings, or at least can be shamed into showing some tact. 😉
The results of this vs the PS drawn comics are certainly close enough that usability should easily be the deciding point of which drawing tool to use. Bother this page and “yesterday’s” look great! I really like the lighting effects and shadows created by the campfire.
Thanks. 🙂 Lighting from a campfire isn’t so easy, since the shadows are reversed and you have to remember to include orange highlights.
Maybe I’m reading into it too much, but that look in panel two practically encapsulates Joel’s character. Ace!
Seconded on the two programs looking close enough. PS looked more painterly, but I’ll always say that ease of use trumps everything else. 🙂
Hmm… I wonder if special ‘brushes’ can be created for SAI to make things look more ‘painterly. like in PS.’ 🙂

You’re probably right, but I sure hope it doesn’t sound like I’m making demands. I’d be happy with stick figures! 😛
Agreed! It’s definitely a good story; pictures or no!
Yes! The next eight pages with be inside a dark cave! All you can see is their eyeballs.
Bring on the cave (spiders)! xD
Thanks! Expressions are hard to get right. I think Joel spends most of his time just trying to figure out what’s going on.
I think the painterly effect in Photoshop comes from the poor opacity blending – you have to go over an area multiple times to build up to the color you want, and it leaves a stroked effect. SAI has a much smoother airbrush tool. It’s still early, so I still have to see what I can do with this new program.
