Thanks! My pencil work has always been a lot better than my digital ink, and I was never sure why. Manga studio seems to have given me technological crutch that I need.
Now that I’ve had some time to play with Manga studio, it’s given me some ideas on how I might do things differently in Photoshop. (I’m still coloring in Photoshop – the entry level version of Manga studio I’m using doesn’t handle colors very well.) We’ll see which wins out as I continue to try random stuff.
Ah, Ys. Brings back memories. 🙂 Somehow in this remix I’m picturing a Dirty Dancing John Travolta descending into the caves.
It might be the cleaner lines, but the characters look sharper, almost stylized here. Whatever the cause, it’s always neat to watch your style change. 😮
I have redesigned the characters a bit. Before they had more human like torsos with thick necks and higher snouts. Now they’ve got more of a Warner Bros style.
I’ve also been stealing some scenery from Bear Nuts. (http://www.bearnutscomic.com/) Alison Acton does some great outdoor backgrounds. I’ve been studying her caves, trying to figure out how she does that.
Ya know, I think I hadn’t noticed the caves before because they worked so well. Looking closer and comparing them to their inspiration, they seem like a nice, appealing way of of portraying something that might otherwise be very drab. Solid! 😛
WoW, now it shouws that you’re using a different software 😀 Guess we just need to get used to it 🙂
The lines and colors do look better with Manga studio. 🙂
I can actually hear this tune playing in the background while they’re in the mine, and I hope they don’t run into any lava. 😛

That bloke’s a regular ray of sunshine, eh?

He just doesn’t like cleaning up the mess.

The caves show ‘depth’ really well. Like their shading too.
