So yeah, I’ve read through your archives and I have a big scary Criticism.
Your art is ok for the most part, but one big problem is the facial expressions. There isn’t much variety, it looks like you’re copy and pasting them from a template (I’m not accusing you of doing so, but that’s how it looks).
The first panel here illustrates exactly what I mean. They both have the exact same expression on their faces, and I’ve seen the exact same expression over and over again throughout the comic. Try to mix it up a little, faces are much more malleable and elastic than most people give them credit for, and since you’re using stylised animal characters you can get away with even more.
You should really take a look at the characters and consider how they’d individually react via their facial expressions (also body language to a lesser extent), it would make their personalties much more distinct. Try to make them unique to the situation as well, they shouldn’t be terrified of the spider in the exact same way they were terrified of the frog thing.
You’re right. Someone else brought up that all their mouths are gaping open when they talk. I’m not using templates or anything like that, but I have been falling into a rut of visual cliches like big round eyes. (In some panels I’m just glad to get the facial features looking right at all – but that’s not much of an excuse.)
Anyhow, I have a backlog of about a week, so it may take that long to see any changes. Faces are something I want to focus on. I’ve been reading some online articles on drawing eyes, so I’m hoping that will have a positive impact.
Well it’s good to know that you figuring stuff out on your own. A lot of people start putting comics on the internet and decide they can do no wrong. I’m glad you’re not one of those people.
And a backlog! Amazing! You’re officially better at this than about 99% of the rest of webcomics for that alone.
I’m drawing this on a tablet, and the first few strips were done on Toon Boom Animate. It’s a little like drawing on an 8×5 drawing pad with a crayon (that then magically smooths the lines when you finish your stroke). I was having a hard enough time just getting in the figures, never mind the clothing.
Anyhow, he’s no more naked than Bugs Bunny. The folks in this universe don’t have the same Victorian hangups that we do.

Follow up question: the goat dude. Naked because?

Constructive criticism as its finest! Well given, and well received. 😀
Cripes, things just got real…is it all up to The Kid? 😐
There’s one guy left on the field.
