Well, I don’t know a lot about cannons. The Kraken’s meant to be a modified windjammer and built for speed rather than firepower. I was thinking small caliber cannons would make more sense – but it’s possible I low-balled it with 4 lbs.
Most small British ships during the late 18th and early 19th cent had 6 or 9 lb cannons. Something the size of a frigate had 18’s with about 8 32 lb carronades. The carronades were for close in work and fired a huge weight of ball and shot.
maybe he is refering to a 24 pounder, saying just 4 to make it faster as long as there is no actual 4, 14 or 34 pound cannons on the ship, im sure everyone aboard would understand that order
I might change the caliber. I want to give the impression that Ashford’s ship is smaller and more poorly equipped than Bancroft’s, who’s with the Royal Navy.
I was thinking four pounders would work since they’re what the Antelope was equipped with in the song Barett’s Privateers (http://www.jsward.com/shanty/barrett.html). Granted, cracked four pounders are probably the worst cannons you could equip a ship with.
4 lb canons? Thems some tiny cannons. Now if they were 18’s or maybe 32 lb carronades. Now we’re talking fire power.
