Well, it does give you sharper lines and makes it easier to control the form. It makes it easier to make highlights but does restrict you to large regions.
I was trying it in response to a class I was taking. It is a popular technique used in a lot of TV shows, but I think I need a lot more practice.

I can see where this would work well with some tv shows. Everything moving around along with the viewers’ attention points would smooth the shading areas out in their minds. I think it can be useful in still comics too, but to a much more limited extent. Certainly worth a try!
