I’ve renting an apartment from a woman who decided to sell the house I’m in a few months ago. After several months of delays and me hoping the new owners would like to continue having me on as a tenant, the house has finally been sold and the answer is ‘no’. So I’m going to be hunting for a new apartment for end of October. I’m hoping this will not interfere with the comic, but its possible that it will.
So I own two Wacom tablets that I use to digitally draw with. One is a Cintiq where you draw on the surface of the monitor and you can see what you draw appear under the pen. The other is an Intuos which provides no visual feedback on the device itself, but you can see your cursor moving around on one of your regular monitors. I’ve been switching back and forth between the two, since which the Intuos is much harder to draw with, it is a lot more ergonomic to use. I’ve seen some artists do some amazing things with an Intuos, but after several years of trying, I still find it pretty difficult to manage.
Anyhow, I’ve been using the Intuos to draw the strip for the last few months and decided to give the Cintiq another shot – trading the better accuracy for some muscle pain. Unfortunately, somehow in the mean time Clip Studio (which is the art software I’m using) has ceased to work with my Cintiq. The program will simply not display correctly on my Cintiq monitor. I can use other programs, and was able to sketch today’s strip using SAI, but Clip Studio seems to be down for the count. 🙁
Anyhow, if anyone has any tips on Cintiq and Clip Studio, let me know. Internet searches and help forums have turned up nothing.
I really need to upgrade a lot of my equipment.
I’ve just released a new musical composition! It’s a house/dance number. Check it out on my YouTube page:
(Also listed in my Twitter feed, I believe)
So, on Sunday night I got a email post from my webhost telling me that my server had been Shanghaied and was being used by parties unknown to run spam bots. They took my site down and I’ve been spending the last two days getting things set up again. WordPress in particular (the software I use to serve this comic) is not the easiest program to restore, so it may take a while to get everything back in place as I reupload each comic page. Luckily I still have all the old pages saved off line so no data is lost.
Anyhow, the server folks have been very helpful in helping me get back up again. The locks have all been changed, so hopefully this nasty business is not going to be repeated.
I just finished rereading Rice Boy, an amazing one-off web comic by Evan Dahm. I remember reading it back when he was first posting it in weekly updates back in 2007, and it still holds up all these years later. He’s moved on since then and is currently working on his Vattu series which is in many ways it’s spiritual successor. In any case, if you’re looking for a great web comic, I’d recommend it.
I like the guy with the rifle in panel two. Looks a lot like pictures I’ve seen of troops in the U.S. civil war.
Annnnd.. That hore is evil! 🙂
*horSe! dangit.
What’s up Mark?? Not a peep from you in almost -3- months! I hope you’re okay!!
I was getting worried myself, but he put out a Blender tutorial on the 17th, so I think he’s doing okay.. hopefully just taking a break from the comic to put time into other things.
You’re right. I don’t see Mark’s stuff elsewhere; but, I sent him a note and that’s more-or-less the answer I got. 🙂
Okay, now I’m worried. Is the comic cancelled or something?
I have a sneaky suspicion the answer is… It’s on an unofficial hiatus. One that lasts…kinda…foreverrrr…. 🙁
(I only check it about once per month these days. 🙁 )
