Characters
Joel |
A young man with a keen interest in magic but no formal training. Growing up on a farm, he often dreamed of adventure but never though it would happen until the fateful day he was hired to guide a strange pair of foxmen to the nearby city of Havernbach. Joel isn’t very good at manipulating mystical forces, but he does know some basic spell that are useful around the farm. He also knows a few card tricks and taught himself to juggle. Optimistic and wanting to see the best in everyone, he can often come across as naive. |
April Blackbrooke |
Having grown up in the slums of the capital, April takes nothing for granted. Cynical and hot tempered, she is none the less passionate about those she cares about – especially her beau Peter Longthorn. April is skilled with short bladed and thrown weapons and will meet resistance with force. However, possessing a keen intellect, she will often opt for psychological manipulation or a hit-and-run rather than battling things out to the bitter end. |
Peter Longthorn |
Conscripted into the Royal Navy when he came of age, Peter found himself serving under captain Oliver Ashford and was part of his crew when they rebelled to join the Freemens’ alliance, a group opposed to the increasing use of magical technologies by the state and its encroachment into traditional ways of life. Having grown up around the sea, Peter is a skilled sailor. He is the beau of April Blackbrooke, whom he met after joining the resistance. Peter is also a talented violin player. |
Oliver Ashford |
Captain of the Kraken, former officer in the Royal Navy and influential financier in the Freemen’s resistance. A son of wealthy merchants, Oliver doesn’t have much respect for noble titles and seeks to carve his own little kingdom out of a world in turmoil. |
Rita |
A mercenary and leader of a small band of goatmen, Rita always up for a fight and sticking it to the civil authority. |
Bartholomew |
A mysterious wizard with a powerful command of mystical forces. Having formerly worked for the crown as a mining engineer, he abandoned them after witnessing the destruction of a village of his kindsmen at their hands. He has kept a low profile since then, but has been hired as a consultant by the Freemen alliance. |
Daedalus |
An even more mysterious companion of Bartholomew. Neither foxman nor goatman, he seems something totally alien to this world. He can be summoned at will by Bartholomew from a pile of dust and returns to such just as easily. |
